Abstract

The purpose of the study is to propose a classification of rural areas of the People's Republic of China (PRC). The relevance of the study is determined by the tasks set by the Communist Party of China for the 14th five-year plan. With the growth of the country's population, the share of agriculture in the country's GDP over the past 40 years has decreased by almost 4 times, and the number of rural residents has more than halved over 70 years. Even though at present the PRC is one of the world leaders in agricultural production, the country's government is concerned about the problem of food security. This problem should be solved by provinces specializing in agriculture. Natural conditions led to the allocation of provinces on the territory of the country with a mixed agricultural specialization, specialization in crop production and animal husbandry. The author proposes to classify the provinces of the PRC according to the importance of agriculture for their economy, determined by the value of the localization coefficient. It is possible to carry out a deeper classification, considering the purpose of using grown crops.
